May and June 2012 Reading Lists

WOW... I'm terribly behind in updating my reading lists. With a slew of holidays, birthdays, and the like this summer has been slow reading wise. That will pick up as the year progresses, trust me.

~ Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris -- Volume 12, Sookie Stackhouse series
~ Planetwalker by John Francis PhD -- Extremely interesting but admittedly a little slow towards the end, or it may have just been my typical "slowness at reading nonfiction" going on.
~ M is for Magic by Neil Gaiman -- Can you believe I found this first edition hardcover in excellent condition in a free pile at a yard sale?!
~ Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson -- HYSTERICAL!! Funnier than the bible even. Go look up the video "I am Jenny Lawson" on YouTube. Thank me later.
~ The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan -- Volume 1, Wheel of Time series -- Because I love the Wheel of Time series but it's so long that I have to take breaks when rereading it. Starting it now, I should be done rereading the series by the release of the final chapter in January next year.
~ The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan -- Volume 2, Wheel of Time series

~ The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan -- Volume 3, Wheel of Time series
~ Kiss the Dead by Laurell K. Hamilton -- Volume 21?, Anita Blake series -- This one was ok, the characters are like old friends at this point so it's always good to see what they're up to. However, this was not the stronger in the series. Seemed rather rushed, weak plot and a little sloppy compared to earlier works.
~ The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins -- I really did NOT want to enjoy this trilogy but I could not put it down. I devoured it in under 3 hours then ran out to the bookstore the next day to get the rest of the series. I also went and saw the movie in the theaters after finishing the series. It was good, not as good as the books of course though. Glad I saw it at a $3 matinee and didn't pay full price for the film though.
~ Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
~ Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

And now in July, I'm working on the Song of Fire and Ice series by George R.R. Martin. You may know it as the Game of Thrones TV show on HBO. This is another series I really didn't want to like. When I read fantasy I want sword and sorcery not who boffing who in the courts (which is what the reviews I had read indicated about the book series). But I am ADORING this series. Done with the Game of Thrones and into the Clash of Kings now. He's not shy about knocking off characters is he? LOL
